The eighth annual Montreal Folk Festival moves into its weekend programming on the canal today, presenting artists from the broad spectrum of folk, including Basia Bulat, Sin and Swoon and the Stray Birds on the main stage, with half a dozen acts playing the Montreal and Emerging Artists stage and young musicians on Lhasa de Sela Youth stage. Quebec’s best pole-fitness performers compete in the provincial championships, happening tonight at Telus Theatre, featuring finalists in amateur, masters (40+), doubles, women’s and men’s categories. 1280 St-Denis, 8 p.m., $3

Ascetic House present Suoni la Nuit, a party at an unnamed venue (TBA) featuring some of the acts who’ve played the Suoni per il Popolo festival in recent days, namely Jock Club, Pelada, Gila Man and Babi Audi. 11:30 p.m., $5

Say hello to Montreal’s newest cinematic adventure with La Vox Pop Up Cinema as they host their first screening, of Quentin Tarantino’s 1996 vampire crime thriller From Dusk Til Dawn starring George Clooney, Harvey Keitel and Juliette Lewis, plus a couple of shorts from local filmmakers. 3495 de Bullion, doors 10 p.m., $10
