Savages, tonight at la Tulipe

The PHI Centre screens Cristian Mungiu’s strange drama Beyond the Hills, about the strained friendship between two girls who grew up in the same orphanage. 407 St-Pierre, 7:30 p.m., $11.25

Savages play Montreal for the first time, with opener Johnny Hostile. See our interview with this incredible British band (who’ve made the best album of the year) here. La Tulipe (4530 Papineau), 8:30 p.m., $20/$23, all ages

The legendary—in rap-nerd circles, anyway—R.A. the Rugged Man is at Cabaret Underworld with openers Pres-One, Boombap Cats and others. See our interview with the man here. 1403 Ste-Elisabeth, 9 p.m., $13/$15

Up at Club Balattou, the Nuits d’Afrique festival presents local raï/reggae/ragga/hip hop act Syncop, supported by with Tunisian oud player Mohamed Masmoudi. 4372 St-Laurent, 11 p.m., $10
