Masta Ace headlines Beaux Degâts soirée at Foufs

It’s a one-stop shop for hip hop (well, minus breakers) as the Beaux Degâts arts battle unfolds at Foufs, followed by a show hosted by Cult MTL’s own Darcy MacDonald featuring the one and only Masta Ace, Stricklin, Wordsworth, the Bundies, Ill Tone & the Kids, Citizen Kane, the Grindhouse Project, L.E.S and DJ Johnny Illdigger. Read Darcy’s interview with Masta Ace here. 87 Ste-Catherine E., art at 7 p.m., music at 11 p.m., $10 before 9 p.m./$15

Multimedia and sound art aficionados are to report to Data: Salon III, the third installment of Eastern Bloc’s series exploring new media artwork. This round, catch Andrés Salas’s film Soundwalk, about Hildegard Westerkamp’s sound recording in Vancouver, plus a playback-oriented performance by Alvin Lucier, Émilie Girard-Charest’s looped cello performances, and Benjamin Allard and Maximilien Bianchi’s participatory 16/11/11 – 27/03/13 project. 7240 Clark, 7–10 p.m., free

Raucous trivia night Know It All returns to Cagibi, with special guest DJ Lynne T taking on the night’s traditional Thas Ma Jam segment, playing snippets of songs to test contestants’ musical knowledge. Le Cagibi (5490 St-Laurent), doors and registration 7:30 p.m., $5 (proceeds go to Head & Hands)

Iceland’s Sigur Rós take their heroic post-rock to arena heights, with Tim Hecker setting the scene. Bell Centre (1909 avenue des Canadiens-de-Montréal), 8 p.m., $65.50/$50.50

Keen to show off your smarts and/or skin? Well, you can do both at tonight’s Strip Spelling Bee. Contestants enter free and score a drink on the house, but it’ll cost you one-third of your clothing for each misspelled word. Théâtre Sainte Catherine (264 Ste-Catherine E.), sign-up at 8:30, bee at 9 p.m., $10

Straight outta Portlandia, indie pop band Parenthetical Girls return to Divan Orange, headlining this time, with openers Flicker State and the Hydrothermal Vents. Read our interview with singer Zac Pennington here. 4234 St-Laurent, 9:15 p.m., $10
