There are rival rooftop BBQs on either side of St-Laurent in the lower Plateau today: Tokyo’s second such party of the season, Twice As Nice, has DJs Grandbuda, Groll Street, Forrest, Jay London, MaddieLongLegz, the Holy, Thomas P and “a very special guest,” along with oysters, gourmet BBQ and beer buckets. At B-Side, recurring summer party Daydream has DJs from the bands Seoul and Young Galaxy as well as L.A. Foster, Future Shark, (Cult MTL contributor) Erik Leijon and Passovah Productions’ Noah Bick. Head to Cinéma du Parc for a special screening of food-industry exposé doc Sugar Coated, in the presence of director Michèle Hozer and chemistry professor Joe Schwarcz, director of McGill Office for Science & Society. 3575 Parc, 5:45 p.m., $12/$10 for 13- to 25-year-olds & seniors

Van Horne Station (VHS), a joint venture between Piknic Électronik, Mural Fest and First Fridays, hosts their 2nd block party underneath the Van Horne/Rosemont overpass. Come check out live painting by artists including MC Baldassari and Mateo, music by Queb rap crew Alaclair Ensemble, DJs Killa-Jewel and Heidy P and food trucks including Au Pied de Cochon. 5795 de Gaspé, 4–11 p.m., $10
