So the Birdmann — no, not the guy from Cash Money Records, but the Australian comic — kicks off a 10-night run of his one-man murder mystery, The Events of Momentous Timing, tonight. Monument National (1182 St-Laurent), 9 p.m., $25.12

The Fantasia film fest presents Takashi Miike’s latest, Shield of Straw (Imperial Theatre, 1432 Bleury, 6:30 p.m., $9), and a festival launch party with DJs Thisisnotmusic, Mightykat, le Matos and B’UGO (SAT, 9 p.m., free).

The Fantasia International Film Festival starts today. The fest runs until August 7 and is included in the Festi+Pass. When you show your pass at the Imperial Cinema, you receive a free small popcorn when you purchase a soft drink.
