Babymetal

Heavy Montreal starts today, headlined by Metallica (playing the fucking hits, by request), with local legends Voivod and adorable Japanese trio Babymetal adding to the draw. Parc Jean-Drapeau, 12:30–11 p.m., $99.50 for a Saturday ticket, $175 for a two-day pass

Fantasia is over (see our best-of round-up here) but if you’re feeling some withdrawal, Snowpiercer is an exciting post-apocalyptic action movie with an all-star international cast, directed by Joon-ho Bong (The Host, Mother). Cinéma du Parc (3575 Parc), 3:45 and 9:30 p.m., $11

As part of Pervers/Cité, the alternative LGBT pride week, the third annual Dyke March — Dykes Against Austerity — happens this evening at 6 p.m., followed by a massive afterparty (details via word-of-mouth — you must attend the march to get in on the party).  All “lesbians, dykes, butches, femm*s, genderqueers, studs, stemmes and trans*” folks are invited. Place Emilie-Gamelin, 6 p.m.

Local electronic/synth-pop acts Essaie Pas (with Marie Davidson) and Police des Moeurs are launching a record together, and playing la Vitrola tonight with Johnny Couteau. 4602 St-Laurent, 9 p.m., $8

Black Snake Circus presents the third annual Freak & Fabulous MTLs Inked Lady event, promising a range of sights, sounds and activity: a tattoo competition, burlesque performances, a freak show featuring a contortionist, human pin cushion, snake charmer and more, an art exhibit and live music by Project F and Erika Daniels Vyxen plus DJ JNNBNNRCK. Le Belmont (4483 St-Laurent), 10 p.m., $15/$20
