Mayor Valérie Plante has commented on the cancellation of the Pride Parade earlier today, confirming that the City of Montreal and SPVM were ready to host the event.

“We couldn’t wait to be there,” Plante said, before stating that a post-mortem from the Fierté Montreal Pride organization would help clarify the cause of the parade’s unfortunate cancellation.

“The City and the SPVM were ready to host the Pride Parade. We had been waiting for it for two years, and we couldn’t wait to be there. Questions remain around its last-minute cancellation by Fierté Montreal Pride. We are awaiting answers and a post-mortem.”

Mayor Plante released a previous statement expressing her disappointment regarding the Pride Parade’s cancellation, while also encouraging Montrealers to visit the Village and celebrate at the Olympic Stadium today.
