François Legault Quebec open society Pride Parade Fierté

Legault: “Quebec is one of the most open societies in the world”

“… but there is still work to be done to combat discrimination.”

Quebec Premier François Legault issued a statement this afternoon following the cancellation of today’s Montreal Pride Parade. He called Quebec “one of the most open societies in the world,” but one where more work is required to fight discrimination — a curious comment considering the Legault government’s discriminatory legislation and denial of systemic racism.

“I had to be present at the Pride Parade in Montreal today. Even if the event is cancelled, it is important that sexual and gender minorities feel comfortable in our society.

“Quebec is one of the most open societies in the world. But there is still work to be done to combat discrimination. Let’s keep working on it.”
