Montreal Mayor Valérie Plante has released a statement on the last-minute cancellation of the Pride parade this afternoon, reportedly due to security concerns and a lack of sufficient personnel.

Plante expressed her disappointment, highlighting the importance of celebrating 2SLGBTQIA+ communities, while also encouraging Montrealers to visit the Village and celebrate at the Olympic Stadium today.

“Like you, I am extremely disappointed to learn of the last-minute cancellation of the Pride parade. I was very much looking forward to meeting you. Despite this, let us continue to celebrate the 2SLGBTQIA+ communities every day and highlight their struggles.

“I invite you all to continue the celebrations by visiting the Village and meeting me at the Olympic Stadium Esplanade this evening. Montreal, an open and inclusive city, will continue to vibrate to the rhythm of Pride!”
