Larry’s

For the newbs and the chronically disorganized, today is Victoria Day, a national holiday (also known as Journée nationale des Patriotes to Quebec nationalists). It’s a government/bank holiday, but almost everything else is open, with the exception of some small businesses that may choose to close — call ahead to be on the safe side. There’s no mail, but garbage pick-up continues; SAQs are open and the STM is running on a Sunday or holiday schedule.

It’s day two of the Piknic Électronik’s season opener, and today’s line-up is pretty sweet, with British producer Four Tet headlining. 2–9:30 p.m., $13.50 in advance (online)/$15 on-site/season passes $80 for students/$110

Lawrence spin-off bistro Larry’s — recently voted #1 Best New Restaurant in the Best of MTL readers poll — is hosting a special Greek wine and snacks night on this holiday Monday. 9 Fairmount E., 5 p.m.

Here’s the Kicker is a one-night only stand-up and sketch comedy show at Brasserie Beaubien, featuring performances from Chris Sandiford, Bianca Yates, Amanda McQueen and Jason Hatrick plus sketch troupes Cousins, MARV, Small Town Mayor and Big Mall, with proceeds going to help realize an upcoming Fringe production. 73 Beaubien E., 8 p.m., PWYC

The eighth edition of the annual Next Music From Tokyo concert showcases some of the most exciting acts emerging from the Japanese music scene. See more details and samples of the bands’ music here. Divan Orange (4234 St-Laurent), 8 p.m., $10/$15

Slut Island and Suoni per il Popolo team up to bring you a night of femme-centric punk and grungey shoegaze at Casa, with Toronto’s Triage and locals Sigh One Down, Chipped Nails and Grey Bath. 4873 St-Laurent, 9 p.m., $10/PWYC
