5 shows that will kill your eardrums this week

Heavy bands and Johnson’s favourite DJ play the Casa/Sala axis over the next four days. PLUS: A house show you don’t want to miss.

facebookIt’s now been a couple of days but the cinematic scope and brutal beat down of the Godspeed You! Black Emperor/Neurosis show, which is going to be pretty hard to beat for 2014’s show of the year. Just devastatingly beautiful.

Here’s some more gigs that will hopefully warm your cockles.

Friday: One of my favourite bands in the city, Maica Mia, plays as a four-piece for the launch of their sophomore effort Des Era — read my interview with the band here. Picking up the sweat act slot is Ought and Essaie Pas with DJ Babi Audi keeping things spinning all night. La Sala Rossa (4848 St-Laurent), 8:30 p.m., $10

Across the street at Casa is my favourite DJ in town, Nao Identificado, spinning an enticing mix of eclectic sonic delights. 4873 St-Laurent, 9:30 p.m.

In punkier climes, the slimmed down collective Red Mass play with ¼ Tonne Capacity Blunder and Taylor Hoodlum Stevenson. This is all happening in a house, so start yer sleuthing.

Sunday: That fake punk band turned real, Perfect Pussy, will pull up stakes from their pissing ground of Syracuse, NY to blast and bash with Gashrat and Towanda at Casa. 4873 St-Laurent, 8:30 p.m., $10

Monday: For a night of repetitive rhythms, catch the transcendental sounds of Montreal collective Avec le Soleil Sortant de sa Bouche with Woodsman, also at Casa. 4873 St-Laurent, 9 p.m.
