On the walls: art you should see this week

What’s happening this week in Montreal’s fine arts scene.

The 10th installment of Beaux Dégâts art mashup goes down this week at Foufounes Electriques.  (87 Ste-Catherine E.), 7 p.m, $5 before 9 p.m.

Battat Contemporary‘s latest exposition showcases works by four artists: Tom Fairs, Alex Frost, Sophie Jodoin and Thérèse Mastroiacovo, each exploring the art of drawing. Vernissage, Battat Contemporary (7245 Alexandra), May 30, 6 p.m.

It’s already the 10th anniversary of the graffiti festival Plus que des Barbeaux, a Lachine-run endeavour that celebrates graffiti and urban art. This festival lets a younger generation of graffiti artists work alongside veterans and learn more about their craft. It’s also an opportunity for those unfamiliar or unappreciative of graffiti to learn more about it, or learn to appreciate the technique and creativity put into these oeuvres. Vernissage, Lachine Warehouse (2901 Saint-Joseph E.), May 31, 5 p.m.

Première impression, a collective exhibition, is marking its 24th edition. It invites and gives some upcoming talents (all are university students) in printmaking, the opportunity to show their work. There’s prize money to be won and recognition to be earned. Vernissage, Arprim (372 Ste-Catherine E., #426), May 31, 5:30 p.m.

Artist Dayna McLeod concludes her year of wearing strictly leopard print (yes, we’re talkin’ 24/7 animal). The Montreal writer, video and performance artist sported the spots and documented the reactions of those around. Cougarlicious Point Final showcases the year that was and follows it up with a performance piece. There will also be a Cougar Photobooth on hand, so be sure to dress up in your finest animal prints. Vernissage, La Centrale Galerie Powerhouse (4296 St-Laurent), May 31, 7 p.m.

It’s been a fantastic year at Galerie Rats 9 and the season wraps up with the Anarchie finissage, the group show that runs in congruence with the Anarchist Theatre Fest and Anarchist Bookfair. On hand will be performances by Pasha Jovanovic, A Murder of Crows and Bitter Fruit. Vernissage, Galerie Rats 9 (372, Ste-Catherine, #530), May 31,  7 p.m, $4/PWYC
