The Queer Between the Covers bookfair sets up shop in a new location this year, for a one-day-only expo of books, zines and gender empowerment essentials from vendors like Sacred Pussy Press, QT-BIPOC Distro, Black Rose Books, Fight Boredom Distro, Sidetracks Collective (Ste-Émilie Skillshare) and many more. 1700 Amherst, 11 a.m.–6 p.m., free

Celebrate Japanese culture at the 14th annual Matsuri Japon festival, featuring Japanese delicacies, performances, fashion shows, dance and martial arts demos and much more. Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre (8155 de Rousselot), 11 a.m.–9:30 p.m., free

In the midst of an escalating public debate over whether Montreal’s old-port calèches are ethical or not, a Grande Cavalcade of horse-drawn carts takes place in Pointe St-Charles today to illustrate the roles horses played in early days of the city. Departs from Wellington & Charlevoix, 1–5 p.m., free

Day two of Ile Soniq bring a real range of artists to the stages at Parc Jean-Drapeau, from Can-pop star Kiesza to U.S. rappers Earl Sweatshirt and Azealia Banks to Rave of Thrones (which is kind of what it sounds like) to local DJ crew Black Tiger Sex Machine. See the complete line-up here. Ile Ste-Hélène, 1–11 p.m., $90/$150 Gold Pass

Get your Beyoncé on at Felix during the Qouleur edition of Cerise sur le Gâteau and Dayna Danger’s Bow Down Queen Bey-themed party, featuring DJs Lykx, Hua Li and Pablo Montoya plus a special performance from Strange Froots. Part of the proceeds from the night will go to support Unceded Voices, this month’s anti-colonial street art convergence. 6388 St-Hubert, 10 p.m., $10/$7 in advance.

Music Is My Sanctuary hosts an album launch party at Artgang for Swindle (U.K.), supported by DJs Lexis and Son Raw. 6524 St-Hubert, 10 p.m., $10 before midnight/$12
