Counter-protests are coming to Ottawa this weekend

According to Le Droit, two counter-protests are being organized to voice frustration over the trucker convoy protest in Ottawa, which has now been going on for six days. While a handful of counter-protesters have been present in downtown Ottawa since last Friday, these organized events reflect growing anger at the police department’s hands-off approach to people who have been holding part of the city hostage by blocking traffic, honking at regular intervals and harassing business owners and passersby.

One counter-demonstration is being organized by Reclaim Ottawa via Instagram, and proposes that participants be prepared to peacefully protest the presence of noisy truck drivers in downtown Ottawa.

Another protest is being organized via Reddit by an individual named Mackenzie, who is proposing an anti-hate demonstration following instances of antisemitism, Islamophobia, anti-Black racism, homophobia and transphobia that have been reported at the protest in Ottawa.

There is also a petition on Change.org with almost 33,000 signatures demanding that police remove the protestors.
