Quebec considers vaccine passport requirement to enter the SAQ, SQDC

Reports suggest that the new mandate will be announced this week.

TVA is reporting that the Quebec government wants to require the clientele of the SAQ and SQDC to show their vaccine passport, and is expected to announce the new mandate this week. This decision follows meetings between public health and Premier François Legault yesterday, and reports of the public’s growing anger towards the unvaccinated for clogging up the healthcare system. There was a record increase of 165 hospitalizations across the province yesterday.

Legault has reportedly been making inquiries with public health about expanding the use of the vaccine passport to more businesses. (Currently, all businesses where the vaccine passport is required are closed for an undetermined length of time.) The Société des Alcools du Quebec (SAQ) and the Société québécoise du cannabis (SQDC), which have had record increases in sales and profits during the pandemic, have stayed open as essential services even during the full lockdown of 2020.

The details of the implementation of the vaccine passport requirement at the SAQ and SQDC are still being discussed.
