Montreal’s newest music and arts festival, Lux Magna, kicks off tonight with a vernissage at Casa del Popolo for the fest’s visual arts installations by Cedar Eve and Nina Slykhuis, followed by several shows including Prise d’opposition: a musical conversation featuring performances and conversations from 12 cross-genre artists, hosted by Elle Barbara. Check out our interview with Lux Magna organizers here. Vernissage at 4873 St-Laurent, 5–7 p.m., free, show at 4848 St-Laurent, 8 p.m., $10/NOTAFLOF.

As part of Never Apart’s Legend speaker series, Jamaican-born Canadian veteran runway model Stacey McKenzie joins the Never Apart team to share her wisdom and participate in a Q&A session with the audience. 7049 St-Urbain, 7 p.m., free

The second weekend of Igloofest starts up tonight, and while it’s a cold one, body heat and the beat will keep you toasty while you watch L.A. DJ (and Mad Decent crew member) NGHTMRE shivering up on stage. Also on decks tonight are locals the W4rriors, Izzy Vadim and Michael Sparks & friends. See the entire weekend line-up here. Quai Jacques Cartier (Place Jacques Cartier & de la Commune E.), 7:30 p.m., $25

Drunken Cinema MTL presents the wackiest of John Hughes classic coming-of-age films from the 1980s, the 1985 quasi-sci-fi flick Weird Science. Bar le Ritz PDB (179 Jean-Talon W.), film at 8 p.m., $7

Detroit producer/DJ/songwriter John FM drops in at “neighbourhood rave spot” Datcha care of music store la Rama. Montreal DJ Kris Guilty will be warming up the floor. 98 Laurier W., 11 p.m., $10
