WRKDEPT’s fall 2015 denim collection

Montreal fashion label WRKDEPT launches its Spring/Summer 2017 collection with a special runway preview at the Phi Centre, showcasing designs inspired by the militant Zapatista agro-reform protesters of Mexico. Expect tunes by M. Bootyspoon, Empress and Boha plus visuals from Thesis Media. 407 St-Pierre, 6–9 p.m., free

Illustrators of all stripes are invited to Drink and Draw (self-explanatory?) at Hochelaga’s friendly Atomic Café. BYO paper, pencils and other materials you may require. 3606 Ontario E., 6:30–9:30 p.m., free entry

Milton Park venue the Yellow Door hosts an evening of poetry, prose and music on the theme of Lovers and Others featuring readings and performances by Ian Ferrier, Harry Rajchgot, Jesse Anger, Branka Petrovic and more. 3625 Aylmer, 7 p.m., $6

Check out a whiskey tasting at Villeray bar Birra, and stick around for some beer chasers — it’s the specialty of this Bar à Bières Maison, after all. 7129 St-Laurent, 7:30–9:30 p.m., $25

The National Theatre School’s graduating class presents a production of The Laramie Project, a documentary-style play by award-winning playwright/director Djanet Sears about the 1998 hate crime that killed gay college student Matthew Shepard in Laramie, Wyoming. Proceeds from tonight’s opening performance will be donated to GRIS Montreal, a non-profit providing support and services to LGBT youth in the Montreal area. Monument-National (1182 St-Laurent), 8 p.m., PWYC, runs until Dec. 17

Local psych/art rock bands Chocolat, Corridor and Birds of Paradise are playing a benefit show at l’Escogriffe for producer (and Chocolat guitarist) Emmanuel Ethier, who recently lost the contents of his apartment in a fire. 4467 St-Denis, 8 p.m., $10 + voluntary donations
