The Quebec Writers’ Federation hosts their annual QWF Awards Gala to honour the cream of the crop of the past year’s literary contributions of Quebec writers, with shortlisted writers including Jacob Wren, Kelly Norah Drukker, Chelsea Vowel and Madeleine Thien, who has already won this year’s Governor General’s Award and the Giller Prize for her novel Do Not Say We Have Nothing. Swedish metal band In Flames plays Metropolis with openers Hellyeah (a metal supergroup based in Dallas, TX) and Lancaster, PA’s From Ashes to New. 59 Ste-Catherine E., 7 p.m., $42/$48

The Centaur Theatre is home to Porte Parole theatre company’s production of The Watershed, a true story that follows playwright Annabel Soutar as she and her family embark on a cross-country road trip to Fort McMurray to investigate the environmental and economic issues surrounding Canada’s tar sands developments. 453 St-François-Xavier, 8 p.m., $28–$51, runs to Dec. 4
