Chainbreaker

This week in heaviosity

Eight bangin’ shows to get you through the heat wave and the post-festival, pre-back-to-school lull.

facebookYou can set your watch to the lull in the watering holes in the wake of Heavy Montreal and the other Evenko festivals, but there are still some good ‘uns happening this week if you squint hard enough:

Thursday: Down at God’s favourite bar — Barfly — you can check out Debutaunt and Ashtray Heart with the Lookout taking up the middle slot (and that’s the first of two shows they’re playing this weekend). 4062 St-Laurent, 9 p.m., price unlisted

Friday: As part of the alternative Pride fest Pervers Cité, Hemisphère Gauche is the place to catch the Queer Ass Punk night, with the Bombs, Van Hechter, Our Lady of Bodily Fluids and Bagbody. 221 Beaubien E., 10 p.m., $10 suggested donation

My big pick of the week is the raging heaviosity of Chainbreaker with Occult Burial, Blackrat and DJ Satannick at la Vitrola. 4602 St-Laurent, 8 p.m., $15

Saturday: The second edition of Rally in the Alley is happening at Katacombes and will feature the best garage-built bikes you are likely to set yer peepers on. This starts at 4 p.m. and will feature the toonz of the Johnny Cash Machine, Pale Lips, the Von Rebels and the hardest working Montreal band in show biz, the Lookout. 1635 St-Laurent, 4 p.m., $10

Sunday: Nothing beats visiting the Turbo Haus on the Sabbath, so why not make it down for Rough Francis, Nanimal and Mia Verko. 5011 Notre-Dame W., 9 p.m., $8/$10

Tuesday: DM DIY Shows are still rockin’ up a storm and will feature Black Sheeps with les Pics à Flore at Rockette. 4479 St-Laurent, 10 p.m., $5/PWYC

Wednesday: Ex-Royal Mountain Band member and leader of the scarf-rock scene Tavis E. Triance returns to town even taller than when he left — he’s getting down with a star-studded band he has deemed the Natural Way. Also keeping things weird is Bids of Paradise, opening the show at Divan Orange. 4234 St-Laurent, 9:30 p.m., $15

The real big ticket of the week would be the hi-energy psycho rock of Bob Log III, who will show you what a boob scotch is — with Kevin Dowling Fitness Hour taking up the sweat act spot, at le Ritz. 179 Jean-Talon W., 9:30 p.m., $15/$20
