Just in time for the weekend, here’s a quick rundown of some vernissages and special events you’ll want to check out over the next few days.

Concordia University’s arts community is in the midst of presenting the 15th annual Art Matters festival, with several ongoing shows. Tonight, Friday, there will be a vernissage at Galerie Espace for the group show Archipel, featuring works from five artists bridging the gap from the personal to the collective. 4844 St-Laurent, Friday, March 13, 6–9 p.m.

Mile End’s Articule hosts a vernissage Friday for Cuts Make the Country Better by Edith Brunette and François Lemieux. The video installations and documentation are based on the reaction of Dutch cultural producers after major cuts in cultural funding by the Dutch government (the title is a quote from the Dutch prime minister), as well as conversations here at home. 262 Fairmount W., Friday, March 13, 7 p.m.

In the Belgo, Les Territoires is launching Mathieu Lambert’s La Théorie du Complot, an exhibition created from images and artifacts from the film industry that looks at our collective memories of fictional events. 372 Ste-Catherine W., #527, Friday, March 13, 6 p.m.

Head to OBORO on Saturday for a roundtable on Political refugees and artistic practices, coinciding with the vernissage for fauxrmé – Deconstruction in Progress, an exhibition of work from Paolo Almario. The artist’s father is presently on trial in Colombia based on false testimonies from several demobilized militia members. The work, large scale photo collages that create portraits of five of the witnesses, will be slowly deconstructed by machine in a chamber built to the same dimensions as the one where Almario’s father has lived for three years. 4001 Berri, #301, Saturday, March 14, 3 p.m.

Work by Sarah Hatton at Visual Voice Gallery

On Saturday, the Belgo will be a hive of activity with five different shows opening including photo mosaics that reach into the 30 year career of Alain Paiement (at Galerie Hugues Charbonneau, #308), Sarah Hatton’s Bee Works involving intricate geometric patterns created from bees (at Visual Voice Art Gallery, #421), and sculptural works by Gabriel Morest at CIRCA art actuel (#444). 372 Ste-Catherine W., Saturday, March 14, 26 p.m.

There’s plenty more to see also, so don’t forget to check the full listings below for more openings, last chances to see closing shows and ongoing shows all across town.
