PHOTOS: Igloofest weekend one

Igloofest came in like a lion this year, launching on Friday, Jan. 16 amid the deep freeze. Low temperatures have kept most Montrealers indoors in recent weeks, but that’s all the more reason for dedicated party people to suit up and break free of their apartments and houses to hit the Old Port for a few nights of winter fun. (Igloofest continues every Friday, Saturday and Sunday through Feb. 8.)

Cult MTL photographer Cindy Lopez went bravely into the Polar Vortex on Friday and returned on Sunday, capturing the scene as DJs and crews like Detroit Swindle, Gaslamp Killer and Flosstradamus worked the crowd. The Igloofest site is also tricked out with slides, sculptures and games, as well as heating stations, food vendors and bars, to keep everyone busy and keep minds off the cold.
