Sandra Bullock and George Clooney in Gravity

Alfonso Cuarón’s (Y Tu Mamá También) Gravity is one of the most anticipated films of the year. Thus far, the flick has garnered praise across the board, especially for Sandra Bullock’s outstanding performance. Bullock plays an astronaut who is left adrift in space after an accident, and comes across a medical engineer played by George Clooney.

In Runner Runner, Justin Timberlake plays a poor, poker playing college student who gets in over his head and ends up working with the man who cheated him (Ben Affleck).

Parkland not only offers a fresh look at JFK’s assassination, but a star-studded cast including Paul Giamatti, Billy Bob Thornton, Zac Efron, Colin Hanks and more. You can read Anna Phelan’s interview with director Peter Landesman here, where they discuss conspiracy theories and the event’s historical significance.

If Metallica’s your thing, it’s likely that you already know about and are anticipating Metallica Through the Never. The rest of us are still pondering how exactly that title made it this far. The concert footage is spliced with the story of a young Metallica roadie on an urgent mission.

Quebec filmmaker Catherine Martin’s latest, Une jeune fille, follows a young girl (Ariane Legault) after her mother dies, and her solitary journey to Gaspé where she meets Serge (Sébastien Ricard). In his review, Malcolm Fraser called the film “melancholy and contemplative.”

Cinéma du Parc will screen Steven Soderbergh’s Emmy award-winning Liberace biopic Behind the Candelabra, starring Matt Damon and Michael Douglas. The film follows the tumultuous relationship between Liberace (Douglas) and his long-time, much younger lover Scott Thorson (Damon). You can read my review here.

And they’ll also be presenting a digitally restored high definition version of Spielberg’s Jaws. Watching this bad boy on the big screen is a good way to get geared-up for Halloween.
