Matsuri Japon festival

Under Pressure celebrates all things b-boy, with graffiti muralists, skateboarding and breakdancing competitions, tricked-out rides and a full day of hip hop. See more details here. At and near Foufounes Électriques (87 Ste-Catherine E.) 10 a.m.–late

The one-day-only Matsuri Japon festival offers a taste of Japanese traditions, with performances by taiko drummers, Bon dancers, martial arts and archery demonstrations, as well as a yukata “try-on” station and hella Japanese food vendors. Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre of Montreal (8155 Rousselot), 12–9:30 p.m.

The second day of the Passovah music fest brings great homegrown sounds to the Plant and Il Motore. Hear our playlist preview here. 185 Van Horne, 1 p.m. / 179 Jean-Talon W., 9 p.m., PWYC

Heavy MTL! The annual mega metal fest takes over Ile Ste-Hélène to annoy the annoying residents of St-Lambert. See our metal experts (and comics heavyweights) Andy Belanger and Becky Cloonan’s festival preview here. Parc Jean Drapeau, 1 p.m., $135/$220

The CFP ends its summer residency at the Centre Skol with a dance party featuring DJs Lesbian Menace, Satin Ally and DJ Husband, live comedy and more. Belgo Building (372 Ste-Catherine W., #314), 8 p.m., free

DJ XL5 will entertain Heavy MTL festival-goers with his Spandex Zappin’ Party which explores the history of heavy metal music. Read our interview here. Corona Theatre (2490 Notre-Dame W.), 11 p.m., $10/ $5 for Heavy MTL ticket holders.
