Circus Afterhours invites only the most serious beat junkies to Odyssey 2013, a New Year’s Eve blowout, afterhours style. Promoters les Samourais des jungles urbaines and the local wing of Ninja Tune Records serve up something real nice at Omisoka, within the walls of Old Montreal’s industrial boho spot the Darling Foundry. Balkan Beat Montreal throws its annual gypsy bash with the bass-heavy gems of DJs Touski and Ira and the Romani folk fury of violinist Briga. And free bubbly at midnight, yo. Divan Orange (4234 St-Laurent), 9 p.m., $20/$30

L’Escogriffe’s got you covered for live rock ‘n’ roll, with locals UBT (formerly Uncle Bad Touch) and le Kid & les Marinellis, plus DJs JP Hearse of l’Esco weekly Midnight Shakedown. 4467 St-Denis, 9 p.m., $10

If you’re looking for value and a brain-full of booze, Montreal’s classic (alt) rock haunt, Foufounes Électriques just might be the place. At one or two toonies per drink (tip in), plus a low cover charge that includes coat check (advance tickets also include VIP line access), this is nothing if not affordable. 87 Ste-Catherine E., 8 p.m., $10 /$15

Have you heard the one about the Muppeteer who turned out to be a child molester? Um, yeah.
