THREAD/BARE

THREAD/BARE

Thursday, Nov 7 , 6 p.m. to Sunday, Nov 17 , 8 p.m.

AnneBruce Falconer and Randal Newman present THREAD/BARE: A photography exhibit with a created installation allowing AnneBruce Falconer and invited performing artists to bring life to work exploring ideas of internal scarring, vulnerability, transparency and the strength and healing of the (HUMAN) soul.

The THREAD/BARE photographs

“THREAD/BARE” began as a collection of seven life size photographs that depict internal struggle. These photos, taken in Randal Newman’s studio, while musing with spools of red thread passed across a body came to reference circulation, blood and strangulation.

These images quickly became a metaphor for our altered selves, to see our ‘Dorian Gray’. A metaphor; to mend, to bind, to heal, to enclose, to expose, to make new while holding up the old. Thread is the line of time, over which the body is affected and scarred. Scarring comes as a result of healing.

The THREAD/BARE plexiglass installation

The unlikely marriage of thread, Plexiglas and the human body combine to evoke images of the transparencies in windows, microscope slides, display cases, invisible barriers, creating visible but confined spaces of existence. The transparency of the acrylic sheets heightens the focus on the flesh, making it at once more real, but at the same time less tangible.

It evokes the exposure of an operating table or the childhood memory of the glass coffin of the brothers Grimm’s Snow White. The thread serves to mark the surface of the spaces, and carry messages about the vulnerability and susceptibility of the human body to be wounded, mended and ultimately healed.

“THREAD/BARE” is about transparency. Exposure. Looking at our insides and accepting all our scars and experiences. It is about being able to find comfort in who we are without judgement or shame.

It is not about letting go, more than it is about acceptance through a line of life, a line of time, a line of remembrance, a line of presence, a thread that connects to all.
