Silvicola opens in Montreal theatres with director Jean-Philippe Marquis in attendance

Friday, Mar 22 , 6 p.m. to Sunday, Apr 7 , 4:30 p.m.

Cinema Politica invites you to the theatrical release of SILVICOLA, Jean-Philippe Marquis’ award-winning feature-length documentary.

We’re thrilled to announce that the film will be playing in select theatres in Montreal starting from March 22, with opening weekend screenings taking place at Cinéma Public and Cinémathèque québécoise. A Q&A discussion with the director in attendance will follow after each screening from March 22-24.

ABOUT THE FILM

Jean-Philippe Marquis | 2023 | Canada | English | Original version with French subtitles

At a time when the planet’s old growth forests are threatened as never before, Jean-Philippe Marquis has crafted a dazzling and unsettling film essay on forestry practices in the Pacific Northwest — home to the world’s tallest trees. Juxtaposing sublime aerial imagery with vérité workplace footage, he meets people whose livelihood is connected to the forest economy and culture, tempering a critique of neoliberal forestry practices with empathy for those who labour within the system.
