Carry On, Sergeant!

The inaugural Montreal Nerd Nite is going to be addressing some fascinating and fairly heavy topics over beer at Théâtre Ste-Catherine tonight — we imagine this will last longer than the allotted two hours. 264 Ste-Catherine E., 7–9 p.m., PWYC

Hot Butter screens Matt Wolf’s Wild Combination : A Portrait of Arthur Russell, about the cult NYC composer/musician. The film will be preceded and followed by music, care of DJs Dan & Den.  Bleury Bar à Vinyle (2109 Bleury), 7 p.m., screening at 8 p.m., free

Donna-Michelle St. Bernard’s Gas Girls, a play about women’s struggle for survival in Zimbabwe, is on at the Segal Centre tonight, and through Nov. 8. 5170 Cote-Ste-Catherine, 8 p.m., $27/$24 seniors/$22 students

Interesting timing for this show: To mark WWI’s centennial, Ottawa band Hilotrons is on a Remembrance Day tour, performing the legendary soundtrack compositions of Ennio Morricone along with a screening of 1928 Canadian silent film Carry On, Sergeant! (Film buffs/connoisseurs of shit please note that this has nothing to do with the awful British Carry On films of the 1960s, despite sharing its title with the first film in that series.) La Vitrola (4602 St-Laurent), 8:30 p.m., $10

Already, Macaulay Culkin’s pizza-themed Velvet Underground band the Pizza Underground is back for a second show in Montreal, this time with the added bonus of masterful entertainer Har Mar Superstar. Le Belmont (4483 St-Laurent), 9 p.m., $16
