Until Sept. 20, you can check out SAT Fest at the Société des arts technologiques. They’ll be showing a selection of the best immersive short films created at the SAT and their favourite international artworks. 1201 St-Laurent, Mon–Fri through to Sept. 20, 7 p.m., $16

Colonialism in Québec: Myths, Misgivings and Nationalism is a panel discussion with Darryl Leroux, Délice Mugabo and David Austin, author of Fear of a Black Nation (read a review here), about race, colonialism and Quebec history. The Montreal International Black Film Festival (MIBFF) starts today, highlighting new Black films, while creating a space to debate major cultural, social and socio-economic issues. The opening film is Chasing Shakespeare which will be screened along with a tribute to actor Danny Glover. Imperial Cinema (1432 Bleury), 7:30 p.m., $25

You can check out Joseph Gordon Levitt’s feature-length film directorial debut Don Jon, before everyone else with the PHI Centre’s advance screening. The film is about a guy with unrealistic expectations of love due to the copious amounts of porn he’s watched. 407 St-Pierre, 7:30 p.m., $11.25

Yarn offers an evening of comedic storytelling, featuring some of the city’s best yarn spinners and fish tale talkers, including Pat Dussault, Paul Afflalo and Nisha Coleman. Le Cagibi (5490 St-Laurent), 8 p.m., $5
