The Old Trout Puppet Workshop presents Ignorance

Catch a gratis screening of Sarah Polley’s acclaimed new documentary Stories We Tell, presented as part of the TIFF Top 10 series. Tickets are first-come, first-served, so get ’em while they’re hot. PHI Centre (407 St-Pierre), 5 p.m., free

Four artists — Emmanuel Laflamme, Étienne Doucet, Julian Palma and Hellp — will create new works on the spot in a battle to be best at Les régles de l’art II. A panel of judges will decide the winner (in French). ARTV Studio (175 Ste-Catherine E.), 6:30 p.m., please RSVP at rsvp@artv.ca

It’s opening night for Ignorance, an eerie marionette show with puppets bearing a strong resemblance to Maurice Sendak’s shaggy, creepy-cute characters in Where the Wild Things Are. The show, put on by Alberta’s Old Trout Puppet Workshop, runs to Jan. 19 (check out a preview below). Espace Libre (1945 Fullum), 8 p.m., $24–$34

Reliable U.S. indie bros the Walkmen return with ex-Fleet Foxes psych-rock beardo Father John Misty. Corona Theatre (2490 Notre-Dame W.), 8:30 p.m., $26.50

Stockholm electronic duo Niki & the Dove land at le Belmont with support from Vacationer. 4483 St-Laurent, 9 p.m., $21.10
