Popularity of Pope Francis in Quebec: 72% think his impact has been positive

The least religious province in Canada still believes that Pope Francis is a force for good.

Pope Francis makes his way to Quebec City today as part of his Canadian papal visit. A study by the Angus Reid Institute has gauged the popularity of Pope Francis among Canadians, and whether or not they believe he is having a positive impact on the world.

72% of respondents in Canada believe that Pope Francis is a force for good, with respondents in Ontario (78%), Quebec (72%) and the Atlantic provinces (72%) being most likely to agree. Those least likely to agree are in British Columbia (63%).

Despite Canadians’ negative perceptions of religion overall, large majorities in all provinces believe the leader of the Catholic Church is a force for good.
