Mountain Dust

Mountain Dust

It’s day one of a three-day beer festival in Laval, which will bring over 70 vendors, including 35 Quebec microbreweries, with live music (by acts like hip hop ensemble Alaclair Ensemble and rap/reggae band Brown) and food trucks on site. Centre de la Nature (901 Parc, Laval), three-day passport $18, one-day pass $10, free for kids under 18, beer samples cost between $2 and $10. Advance tickets are no longer online. All transactions on-site are cash-only.

Among the films screening today at the Fantasia festival is Hong Kong action auteur Johnnie To’s Three — see our review of the film here.

The KickDrum Summer Marathon continues at la Vitrola with a show co-presented by CJLO featuring a solid set of local alt-synth and indie rock bands: CO/NTRY, Wake Island, Tracer Flare and Smokes. 4602 St-Laurent, 9 p.m., $11

Catch some new and old-school post-punk and industrial music at Drones, where local bands Cinéma Vengeance, RadioVoid and Maddame will play live, with DJ Tyg from Casa’s post-punk nights. Secret location, 9 p.m.

Described as no less than “Montreal rock ’n’ roll heroes,” Mountain Dust launch their new album Nine Years at Turbo Haus, with openers Biblical (Toronto) and All Dinosaurs (Cleveland). 5011 Notre-Dame W., 9 p.m., $10/$12

British producer/DJ Al Dobson Jr. brings the new London sound to Montreal for the first time, playing a set at le Bleury, with local openers Nico Sé and Bowly. 2109 Bleury, 10 p.m., cover charge unknown
