Kamasi Washington

The seventh edition of the Biennale nationale de sculpture contemporaine is centred in Trois-Rivières, but a satellite exhibition in Montreal’s Circa art actuel opens with a vernissage this evening, featuring sculptural works by Mathieu Valade and Erika Dueck inspired by Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World. 372 Ste-Catherine W., #444, 5–8 p.m., free

In conjunction with the Joan Jonas retrospective at DHC/ART, the Phi Centre will be hosting a choreographed performance by L.A.-based queer, black artist taisha paggett called “Decomposition of a Continuous Whole” as part of this summer’s Affinities series of performances, screenings and conversations. 407 St-Pierre, 5 p.m., free

Before the festival begins on June 29, the Jazz Fest presents L.A. saxophonist Kamasi Washington, known for his solo material (including his critically acclaimed 2015 record The Epic) but also for guesting on a series of tracks and albums by A-list rappers and producers including Kendrick Lamar. Washington plays Metropolis tonight, with openers Atlantis Jazz Ensemble. 59 Ste-Catherine E., 8 p.m., $34–$39.55

Whitehorse indie folk artist Old Cabin is playing Casa with locals Michael Feuerstack and Sunfields, a pretty sweet triple bill (so be punctual). 4873 St-Laurent, 9 p.m., $8/$10

Jim Jarmusch’s 1999 classic Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai, starring Forest Whitaker, is screening tonight at le Ritz as part of the Music and Müller series, showcasing the work of Dutch cinematographer Robby Müller in movies known for their soundtracks. As usual, the bar is allowing BYO food and ordering-in, and free popcorn is available with drink purchases. 179 Jean-Talon W., 9 p.m., $1–$5 voluntary contribution

On your TV tonight (if you have cable) is the long-awaited first episode of season three of Montreal cop show 19-2. Bravo, 10 p.m.
