Christmas pop-up sales are plentiful this weekend, but this one-day-only event is well worth a look: Beaver Sheppard is launching a salsa; Chak Wow will be serving up great Thai food on-site; La Lia massage therapist Thalia will be offering free massages by donation; Kathy Deahler is concocting warm beverages; and there’s handmade jewellery, crafts, sculpture, accessories, small press, vintage clothes and crystals to buy. 170 Jean-Talon W. #403, 12-5 p.m., free entry

Never Apart hosts a screening of They Came From Venus, a film by Mark Kenneth Woods about the House of Venus art collective and its influence on Canadian LGBT culture. The film will be followed by a Q&A with the collective’s founder Michael Venus, conducted by Montreal celeb Plastik Patrik. 7049 St-Urbain, 69 p.m., free entry, all ages

Feminist coming-of-age book The Illuminations Project is the product of a decade of collaborative work by lauded artists Shary Boyle and Emily Vey Duke, and tonight they’re finally launching this thing, with readings, projections and wine. Drawn & Quarterly (211 Bernard), 7 p.m., free

The second edition of Dumpling Disco takes place at Parc Ex dumpling joint Jiu Xiang Yuan (aka Central Bar), featuring the Zig Zag crew and C.E.P. spinning “blistering ’90s rave music.” (Grab some dumplings while you’re there, they’re pretty great.) 931 Jean-Talon W., 7 p.m., free entry

It’s your last chance to catch Pittsburgh comic Andy Picarro at ComedyWorks, ending his three-night run with two shows. See our interview with Picarro here. 1238 Bishop, shows at 8:30 and 10:30 p.m., $15

Local bands UN, Johnny Ripper and Radiant Baby play the Plant. Secret location, 9:30 p.m., PWYC

The Vince Staples show at le Belmont is sold out, but with any luck some of the crowd will clear out to make room for the rest of us before the on-site afterparty, with Shash’U “& homies.” 4483 St-Laurent, 10 p.m., $5
