Six parties for cool cats this weekend

A major club event is going down tonight + 5 more ways to celebrate spring at some fine local establishments.

shineI see you. You’ve been like a little kitty scratching at the door all week, impatient to get out in this spring air and live again.

Here’s where to get live this weekend. Careful with the catnip.

Friday: Le Cypher skips a beat at Bleury Bar à Vinyle to take on Friday for the week rather than the usualThursday affair. Tonight is a birthday jam, paying homage to two of hip hop’s main sources, Kool Herc and Afrika Bambaataa, who both embark on another spin around the sun this week. 2109 Bleury, 8 p.m., $4

Knife and Fork crew returns to la Sala Rossa tonight for their blend of beats and basslines. Bowly, Skinny Bones, the Shah and Ruined Sundays welcome Beaver Sheppard to guest on the decks. 4848 St-Laurent, 10 p.m., PWYC

And an era ends tonight as booker/promoter/Coda Nightlife Group CEO Brooke Walsh ends a four-year stint curating the cool at le Belmont. Brooke is on to next things — see an interview with him at Cult MTL here. But meanwhile, he’s got a barnstorming goodbye party locked down tonight, with club faves Tommy Kruise, Ryan Playground, J.u.D., Dear Lola and Thomas White. All the best big homie. And I promise wherever you land next, I won’t pee on it. 4483 St-Laurent, 10 p.m., $5 for the first 100 people

Saturday: Newspeak hails the return of instrumental neck-breaker and Montreal favourite Blockhead, with guests Elaquent, Ghostbeard and DJ Brace. 1403 Ste-Elisabeth, 10 p.m., $10

And The Sauce is back at le Bleury Bar à Vinyle, with monthly hosts Professor Groove and Ruby Jane receiving this month’s featured DJ, General Eclectic. 2109 Bleury, 10 p.m., $7 before midnight/$10

SundaySunday Scratch Sessions is back at les Bobards for an afternoon of open decks, hosted by DJs Manzo and Killa Jewel.
