Solids

Wanna watch the World Cup final with a little company? The city, Evenko, the MEG festival, the CBC and the people at Parc Jean Drapeau present a free, open-air screening. We’re pretty sure (but not positive) that this is rain-or-shine. Parc Jean Drapeau, doors open at 11 a.m., game at 3 p.m., free

The latest Polanski film is an adaptation of Venus in Fur, a novella by Leopold von Sacher-Masoch (the same S&M story that inspired the Velvet Underground song, incidentally). The critics are digging it. Cinéma du Parc (3575 Parc), 3:30 and 7 p.m., $11.50

Montreal post-punk band Ought returns to Casa del Popolo with a gig you won’t want to miss, since they’ll be on the road for the rest of the summer on a massive tour that will take the local favourites across North America and Europe. They’re playing with Dub Thompson and Cheap Wig. Casa del Popolo (4873 St-Laurent), 9 p.m., $13

Another local band, Polaris Prize-nominated punks Solids, play Turbo Haus tonight with Weed and the Nymphets. 1180 St-Antoine W., #408, 9 p.m., $10
