Heavy shows you need to see this week

1970s punk legends, Passovah’s big weekend, Ian Blurton’s new band & more must-see shit.

facebookHoly fuggin’ guacamole. Pouzza Fest and l’Esco definitely get the crown this week. If you’re into the roots of punk fuggin’ rawk, you’re definitely going to want to put a safety pin in your cheek, put on a bin liner, squeeze into some “fuck me” pumps, smear on some rouge and pogo down to l’Esco on Tuesday. Ah fuggit, you should be doing that every day.

In severe bummer news, Hawkwind have yet again cancelled their show on Wednesday. For those hoping to ride the Silver Machine, keep yer eyes peeled for a make-up date.

Friday: If you find yourself stalking the back alleys of Little Italy you’ll definitely want to make it to “the new Drones Club” to catch the Soupcans, Cellphone, Ice Cream and the dementia punk of Vomit Squad. Ask the Internet for the location, 9 p.m., $7

Saturday: Noah Bick’s Passovah turns 6 this weekend and the loveable young guff has cooked up a packed weekend. Tonight you can catch CTZNSHP, Technical Kidman, Smokes and a ton of others. With so many bands, Noah is starting the partying at 5 p.m. each night. See our interview with Bick and all the show details here.

For the more bearded-out, you can catch the ultimate rawk of Ian Blurton’s new jam (Change of Heart, C’Mon, Bionic) Public Animal with the bell-bottomed boogie of Eagle Tears and Mountain Dust at l’Esco. This will get messy, so plan to cancel your Ikea date on Sunday. 4467 St-Denis, 9 p.m.

Sunday: With barely enough time to clean up the mess left from Saturday night, Passovah blows out its six candles with a second show featuring new Constellation signees Ought, Alden Penner, Athens and a ton more. Again, the jamz all start at 5 p.m., and all the details are here.

Tuesday: Okay, here’s the gig of the week! New York Doll Sylvain Sylvain and original Sex Pistol Glen Matlock will be doing respective acoustic sets at, get this — l’Escogriffe. If you’ve got even a passing knowledge of the history of punk, you have to try and catch these two living legends. Fucking insane! 4467 St-Denis, 9 p.m., $12
