Screw Valentine’s, let’s rock!

Shows and parties to get you through the weekend as the lovers out there stay home and watch House of fucking Cards on Netflix.

facebookAlright already, it’s Valentines Day on Friday. We get it, now shut the fug up! There are tons of great shows happening to help you get through this weekend.

Thursday: The big ticket tonight is the quiet storm of Big Brave at Casa. Fresh from their set opening for Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra last week, they continue their follow-through on their one-two punch combination. They’ll be sandwiched between Isle of Pine and Nick Kuepfer. 4873 St-Laurent, 9 p.m., $8

Friday: For the lovers out there, you should be probably making it a dinner/Netflix night. As for the rest of us, we’ll probably be too busy contemplating dying alone, only to have our remains discovered weeks later after our 10 starving cats have stripped off all of our flesh. Or as I like to call it, “just another Friday night with a tub of ice cream.” Are there shows tonight, though? I don’t know, find ’em yourselves you ungrateful fucks! And, uh, Happy Valentine’s Day!

Saturday: The most swingin-est joint in Little Italy, Notre Dame des Quilles, celebrates its second year of expertly slingin’ the suds. Putting the funk in the junk will be DJs Noah Bick, Tamika and yours truly picking up the sweat act slot. This will get sloppy! 32 Beaubien E., 7 p.m.

Easily one of the most hyped bands in the city right now, Pypy (see our print issue, Poindexter!), will fuck shit up at TRH Bar with Crosss and the serpentine slow-core sounds of Maica Mia. This should fill up fast. 3699 St-Laurent, 9 p.m., $10

Sunday: If you dig the acoustic finger styles of Glenn Jones and John Fahey, you have to witness a master in the field, Kelly Joe Phelps. Not only is Phelps an incredibly gifted guitar player, but his ability to carve out atmosphere with his husky croon will have you hooked. La Sala Rossa (4848 St-Laurent), 9 p.m., $25/$30

The more metal-inclined can catch NYC’s Natur with Troaat, Occult Burial and Barrow Night at Katacombes. 1635 St-Laurent, 8 p.m., $15

Tuesday: Psychonauts are going to want to bubble the bong for Dead Meadow with Mountain Dust at Petit Campus. 57 Prince-Arthur E., 9:30 p.m., $15

Current obsession: Flipper, Generic
