Filmmakers looking to fine tune their skills can head to Pub l’île Noire for a three-hour workshop presented by Eric Falardeau. The event is in association with the Mascara & Popcorn film festival, to registers email mascara.popcorn@gmail.com. You can check out a war film double bill at the PHI Centre, including Dan Krauss’s The Kill Team about a U.S. soldier charged with murder and Danfung Dennis’s Academy Award nominated documentary Hell and Back Again. 407 St-Pierre, 7:30 p.m./ 9p.m., $11.25

It’s happy hour all night at Casa del Popolo, where DJ László will be manning the decks at his monthly Décadence Électronique, a night of vintage electronic and synth sounds. 4873 St-Laurent, 9 p.m.

The Fantasia film festival presents Rated “X”: A Night with Bryan Singer director of The Usual Suspects, Apt Pupil and of course the upcoming X:Men Days of Future Past. The 60-minute discussion will take place with moderator Tony Timpone and the audience. Imperial Theatre (1432 Bleury), 9:30 p.m., free (limited seats)
