London — The Modern Babylon

Cinéma du Parc screens the Cathryne Czubek documentary A Girl & a Gun, exploring the female perspective on an object whose history is deeply bound with men and masculinity. 3575 Parc, 5 p.m., $11.50

Music video pioneer Julien Temple’s film London — The Modern Babylon kicks off RIDM’s free outdoor movie series. The night includes a BBQ presented by the SAT Foodlab and British beats provided by DJ Eibon. Place de la Paix (St-Laurent between Ste-Catherine and René-Lévesque), 7 p.m., screening at 9 p.m., free, make sure to bring a blanket or a folding chair

Cult MTL film scribe and World Provider Malcolm Fraser will let his metal riffs catch sparks with his new project Lion Farm, who launch their EP Bells of the Fallen. They’ll be doing two sets with BP Black Piranha taking up the middle slot at Casa. 4873 St-Laurent, 8:30 p.m., $8

At the Jazz Fest tonight, you can check out Nick Waterhouse, a young singer-songwriter-bandleader from the West Coast whose vintage R&B/soul sound makes him (possibly) the male Amy Winehouse. TD stage (de Maisonneuve & Jeanne Mance), 9 p.m., free

Also at the Jazz Fest, see Toronto electro-goth-pop band Austra, who recently released their sophomore record, Olympia. Club Soda (1225 St-Laurent), 11 p.m., $24/$27.50
