Waiting for the Barbarians

Attend the North American premiere of Waiting for the Barbarians, preceded by complimentary refreshments and snacks and followed by a show-related discussion on South African history and politics. Segal Centre, 5170 Côte-Ste-Catherine, 11 a.m., $24

Support local filmmakers at Cinéma du Parc. Kim Nguyen’s Oscar-nominated Rebelle (War Witch) screens at 6:45 p.m., while Nathalie St-Pierre’s recently released Catimini (read our review) is on at 3, 5, 7 and 9 p.m. 3575 Parc, $11.50/film

The Sake of the Songs players tackle the “Can Folke” songbook (from Buffy Sainte-Marie to Destroyer) leaving their usual stage (Cagibi) for la Gruta Centre Culturel Mile End. Proceeds go to the Mile End Mission. 6011B Parc, 9 p.m.
