Musicians honour the late Lhasa de Sela

On Sunday, musicians including Arthur H., Plants and Animals and Little Scream performed at a concert in tribute the late Lhasa de Sela, the Mile End singer-songwriter for whom some residents wish to rename the park at the corner of Clark and Van Horne. Cult MTL photographer Owain Harris was on hand to document the show.

Nearly three years ago, Lhasa de Sela, an American-born singer-songwriter who long called Mile End home, died of breast cancer.

For over a year, the Comité des citoyens du Mile End, a local citizens’ group, has campaigned to rename the park at the corner of Clark and Van Horne in the late artist’s honour.

On Sunday, just days before what would have been the de Sela’s 40th birthday, the Comité held what it called a “mini-concert” in the park to celebrate her music. On hand to pay tribute to the musician — and remind the hundreds of attendees of the ongoing effort to rechristen the park Parc Lhasa de Sela — were Little Scream, Plants and Animals and Arthur H., among others.
