You’re my WonderWall: Participatory art at the Belgo

Over the next few days Galerie Visual Voice offers you the chance to both be and make your own art. Melanie Matthews’ current project invites the public to become a part of her “Wonderwall,” a collection of participant portraits.

Contributors will be photographed, then an experienced artist will teach them how to perform a photo transfer, a painting method that uses the photo original as its source, onto the medium of their choice.

Over the next few days Galerie Visual Voice offers you the chance to both be and make your own art. Melanie Matthews’s current project invites the public to become a part of her “WonderWall,” a collection of participant portraits.

Contributors will be photographed, then an experienced artist will teach them how to perform a photo transfer, a painting method that uses the photo original as its source, onto the medium of their choice. Anyone can take part, but you have to book ahead, and sitting for a portrait costs $54 and takes about two hours.

Once created, 100 of these 24” x 24” portraits will be mounted in a mosaic installation, which will then be on display at the gallery from Aug. 15–25.

“WonderWall” is happening at Galerie d’art contemporain Visual Voice (Belgo Building — 372 Ste-Catherine W., Suite# 421), Aug. 9–11, 11 a.m.–5 p.m.

The vernissage of the completed portrait mosaic takes place Aug. 23, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
