Well, we’re nearing the end of this thing (huzzah!), and last night, Parti Québécois leader and frontrunner Pauline Marois made one thing eminently clear: She wants to turn Quebec into a country. And she’ll need a majority government to do it.

She also suggested Stephen Harper hopes a CAQ victory will bring François Legault — who the Toronto Star says is riding a wave of provincial disaffection — to his knees before him the morning after the election. Really subtle stuff. Tasteful, too.

But, per the latest CROP poll, which has the CAQ fighting the Liberals for second place, that likely won’t be the case. As the Globe and Mail notes, the Liberals are in danger of a historic defeat, which Jean Charest is doing whatever he can to avoid. Because third place sucks.

But what about the capital region, you say? Even there, the CAQ — for whom, OpenFile’s Patrick Lejtenyi notes, “things are looking pretty peachy” — is beating the sad-sack Liberals.

What does it all mean, though? Your guess is as good as ours. On thing, however, is certain: Tuesday can’t come fast enough. ■
