Vernissage | Kaiatanoron Dumoulin Bush | Iakoteriwatié:ni | Moulin à paroles | Chatterbox

Saturday, Oct 30 , 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

daphne is pleased to announce its third exhibition, Kaia’tanó:ron Dumoulin Bush’s Iakoteriwatié:ni | Moulin à paroles | Chatterbox opening on October 30. This solo exhibition, curated by Sherry Farrell-Racette, is on view until December 18.
Emerging artist, Kaia’tanó:ron Dumoulin Bush, is an Onkwehonwe/French-Canadian illustrator and visual artist from Oshahrhè:’on (Chateauguay), Quebec. The work included in this exhibition, Moulin à paroles | Iakoteriwatié:ni | Chatterbox is suffused with bright fluorescent pink, which is the color Bush often uses for– it is often one of the bright colours seen at contemporary powwows and she sees this colour as one in which she situates herself. As the artist has stated, “My mother is French Canadian and my father is Mohawk. So, when you get red and white [together] It turns pink, and this is where I am in the color spectrum.”
Curated by Sherry Farrell-Racette, Kaia’tanoron Dumoulin Bush’s Iakoterihwatié:ni | Moulin à paroles | Chatterbox is about what happens when you exist at the intersection of three often conflicting cultures. The work in this exhibition explores Indigenous narratives of survival as they are expressed in material and visual culture and invites us to wonder at how Indigenous women navigate these realities. Showing a mixture of new and old work, Bush uses drawing, painting, sculpture, performance, and food, to engage with contemporary Indigenous issues, to face and to heal her own intergenerational trauma.
