Townes

Listen here

If you sat down next to Matthew Radich at a bar, you may be surprised to find out he is one of Nicolas Cage’s only genuine fans, a cynic with a dry wit, and also a recording artist under the name of Townes. If asked to describe his music, he might laugh and say “it’s just bad”, but that would be unsurprising as one could find a lot more self-deprecating humor within his music. With four EP releases to his name and several new singles, Townes has found an addictive middle point between indie-rock and gloomy pop. Combining stellar songwriting and nostalgic late-00’s production, he draws on influences from Beck, Diamond Rings, and Wolf Parade.

Currently based in Montreal, Quebec, Radich has spent seven years perfecting his live shows in both a festival setting and small- to mid-size venues. Along with headlining his own shows, he’s supported acts such as Zola Jesus, Holy F, and many others. Townes engages his audiences with the might of a four-piece band, incorporating set pieces and manually programmed lights, despite being a solo act. In the fall of 2019, Radich completed his first tour dates in the United States.

Radich’s new project, “Ghostwriters”, is a short film comprised of several music videos which tell one story. The film was co-written and directed by Radich’s frequent collaborator, Nicholas Wandel.
