Resto & Bar Workers: Know Your Rights

Resto & Bar Workers: Know Your Rights

Monday, Apr 17 , 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Working in Montreal’s restaurants and bars is a labour of love for many of us, but the industry is riddled with a culture that ignores worker health and safety, tolerates harassment, and promotes low wages as a way to keep establishments in business.

Sound like something you can relate to? Rally your coworkers and come to this workshop to take the first step to busting the toxic culture of hustle and exploitation in the service industry!

Date: Monday April 17 (6:30-8:30)

Location: Turbo Haus (2040 Saint Denis St.)

This workshop will cover:

  • Pay & Tips
  • Scheduling, Breaks & Overtime
  • Harassment
  • Unionizing 101

This free English-language workshop is presented by Head & Hands, the Food and Agricultural Law Clinic of McGill, and the General Union.

For more information or any questions please contact Charissa at legaloutreach@headandhands.ca.

Accessibility Notes:

Turbo Haus is a 5 min walk from metros Sherbrooke and Berri-UQAM, as well as bus lines 15 and 125.

There are two steps down to enter the building and 3 steps up to access the workshop space.

There are single-stalled gender neutral washrooms on site.

Two STM tickets will be available to anyone who needs them.
COVID-19 Guidelines:

As part of our commitment to community safety, and especially recognizing that restaurant workers are at an increased risk for COVID-19 and often do not have health insurance or paid sick days, we ask that folks wear a mask throughout the presentation portion of the workshop if they are able to.

There will be free masks, hand sanitizer, and rapid antigen tests available for folks to use.
