Il Teatro Rosso | NO HAY BANDA x Steven Kazuo Takasugi x Huei Lin | Festival MNM

Tuesday, Feb 25 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

We are absolutely thrilled to announce the grand premiere of Il Teatro Rosso, on Tuesday, February 25, 2025 at Montreal’s historic Théâtre Plaza, presented as part of Festival Montréal/Nouvelles Musiques by the Société de musique contemporaine du Québec.

Il Teatro Rosso is an eclectic work for seven musicians, electronics, and video, created in collaboration with composer Steven Kazuo Takasugi and cinematographer Huei Lin. In development since 2021, Il Teatro Rosso integrates strategic lip-syncing, false spatialization and purposeful perceptual misguidance, all in order to achieve a “house of mirrors,” where live & recorded, real & virtual, truth & falsity become confused, and where likewise performer becomes observer and audience the observed. The work is programmatic, representational, narrative, provocative, confrontational, humorous, then not at all humorous, all to accommodate a social and political message current with our contemporary technological culture and humanity in a time of mass consumption, crisis and transition.

Il Teatro Rosso is performed by Sarah Albu (soprano), Adrianne Munden-Dixon & Geneviève Liboiron (violin), Émilie Girard-Charest (cello), Lori Freedman (bass clarinet), Felix Del Tredici (trombone), Daniel Áñez (piano), and Noam Bierstone (percussion), with Gabriel Dufour-Laperrière (live sound), Jeff D’Ambrosio (lighting), Huei Lin (video), and Steven Kazuo Takasugi (composition, musical direction).

Don’t miss your chance to catch this unique show in Montreal before we take it on the road (and across the pond!) this summer!
