The Magic Box

Vintage Pop continues, with vintage finds by some of Montreal’s most determined style hunters, alongside the local labels for sale on-site. Quartier Mode (4276 St-Laurent), 11 a.m.–5 p.m.

It’s the last day of Salon J’ai Faim!, a two-day celebration of all things gastronomic, with tastings, snacks and presentations about local food producers, plus events for kids. Église Saint Enfant Jésus (5035 St-Dominique) 11 a.m.–6 p.m., $10

It’s day one of Piknic Électronik! Head to Parc Jean Drapeau with lunch and dancing shoes (but no booze please). The DJs for the summer’s first weekly day party are Leftroom, Jay London, Laura Jones, Matt Tolfrey, Bowly 2B and Guilty. Place de l’homme (Parc Jean Drapeau metro), 2 p.m., $14

Bowl a strike, support a good cause and eat some grey matter this afternoon. Bowling for Brains: A Zombie Bowl-a-thon for Sex Ed supports local non-profit Head and Hands and provides a couple games of living-dead bowling and entry into a draw for prizes. Those wishing to become “zombified” can attend a make-up session from 1 p.m.-3 p.m. at a cost of $5-$10, depending on the level of facial decomp requested. Montreal Forum Sports Bar (2313 Ste-Catherine W.), 3 p.m., $20 (for two rounds of bowling)

Head out to Nouveau Palais for an evening of gourmet dogs served up by Chaud Dogs with wine pairings by Oenopole. 281 Bernard, 6:30 p.m.–11:30 p.m.

Le Cinéclub: The Film Society screens the classic 1951 John Boulting film The Magic Box, the fascinating story of William Friese-Greene and his lifelong struggle to develop a “moving picture camera”. Cinéma VA-114 (1395 René-Lévesque W.), 7 p.m.
