Mark Carney Pierre Poilievre Trump trade war

Mark Carney leads Pierre Poilievre in net favourability by 39 points

Unfavourability of Poilievre is at an all-time high.

According to a new study by the Angus Reid Institute, Liberal Party leader and Prime Minister Mark Carney (+15%) now leads Conservative Party leader Pierre Poilievre (-24%) in net favourability by 39 points.

Just 36% of Canadians say they have a positive opinion of Poilievre, compared to 54% who say the same of Carney. Unfavourability of Pierre Poilievre is at an all-time high of 60%.

Carney leads Poilievre in net favourability by 57 points among women and 54 points among Canadians aged 18 to 34. A large majority of women (64%) and young Canadians (64%) have a negative impression of Pierre Poilievre. Just 24% of women think Poilievre is the best choice for prime minister.

A previous Angus Reid study found the prospect of Poilievre as prime minister to “induce unease” among Canadians, especially women.

“Pierre Poilievre is trending in the wrong direction. The CPC leader has struggled to endear himself to Canadians. A majority of Canadians have consistently said they have a negative opinion of Poilievre. Mark Carney is now seen as the best choice for prime minister, and the best candidate to handle Trump’s trade war and threats of annexation. Under Carney, the Liberals are currently polling at their highest level of support since September 2016.”

The Liberals are now projected to win a majority in the upcoming federal election.
