Conservative Party of Canada supporters are no longer proud to be Canadian

Anti-Canadian sentiment is strong among those who favour Pierre Poilievre and the Conservative Party of Canada.

According to a study by the Angus Reid Institute, a minority of Conservative Party of Canada supporters say they’re proud to be Canadian, agreeing that Canada is a country they’re proud to live in.

Just 49% of Conservatives say they’re proud to live in Canada, significantly lower than the percentage of Liberal Party (89%), NDP (70%) and Bloc Québécois (63%) supporters who say the same.

Overall, 2 in 3 Canadians (67%) say they are proud to be Canadian.

Quebecers are more likely to say that they’re proud to live in Canada than those in Alberta and Saskatchewan, the two provinces where Pierre Poilievre is most popular.

The study also found that just 26% of Conservatives agree that Canada is a country whose values align with their own.

A separate study by USN has named Canada the second best country in the world, as well as the country with the third-highest quality of life.

The Angus Reid Institute conducted an online survey from Jan. 9 to 11, 2024 among a representative randomized sample of 1,510 Canadian adults who are members of Angus Reid Forum.
